In consultation with Emory’s Office of Disability Services (link below), resources are provided to students with visual impairments, mobility impairments and/or chronic medical conditions that prevent them from fully accessing the University's libraries.

Eligibility for this accommodation will be based on appropriate documentation submitted to the Office of Disability. For this accommodation you must notify ODS within three (3) days of services needed.

Accommodations available include but are not limited to the following resources:

Book & Journal Retrieval

The staff at the Library Service Desk on level two can retrieve books and journals from the library stacks.  We recommend contacting the Library Service Desk (404-727-6873) in advance so that a staff member can be waiting for your arrival. Staff can also have the materials waiting for you if you contact them ahead of time.

Equipment

A Table-top Video Magnifier (CCTV) is available on level one, near the Government Documents area and behind the restrooms. This device enlarges pages of documents for easy viewing.  Please see the staff at the Library Service Desk if you need assistance with this machine.

Computing

Computer workstations in the Learning Commons area are wheelchair accessible.  Users may slow the action of both the mouse and keyboard at any Learning Commons workstation.  Ask for assistance at the Library Service Desk on level two.

Microforms

The Learning Commons Technology Assistants on level one are available for microforms assistance.  Staff can retrieve microforms and assist with the microform reading machines.

Photocopying/Scanning

The Library Service Desk staff on level two and Learning Commons Technology Assistants on level one are available to assist with photocopying/scanning needs.

Printing

Printers on level two in the Learning Commons area are at an accessible height for those in wheelchairs.  All computers in the Learning Commons are connected to these printers.  See the Library Service Desk staff on level two or Learning Commons Technology Support assistant on level one for assistance.

Proxies

Persons with disabilities are eligible to register proxies with the library.  A proxy acts on another person's behalf regarding borrowing library materials.  Contact the Library Service Desk (404-727-8673) for more information.

We encourage anyone with special needs to contact the Emory Office of Disability Services.  We work directly with this office to determine eligibility of special services and to acquire new resources for the library.
